Location Data
Version 1.0 · Effective 18 September 2026 · Updated 18 September 2026
FieldNote uses location for one purpose: finding good coffee near you.
1. When we ask
We ask for location only when you choose something that needs it, such as tapping "Use my location" on Discover. We do not bundle location permission into accepting the Terms of Use, and we never ask for it during sign-up.
2. What we do with it
Your approximate position is used to centre the map and rank nearby cafés by distance. It is sent to Google Maps Platform to return café results. We do not track your location in the background and we do not build a location history of your movements.
3. If you say no
FieldNote keeps working. You can search any suburb, town or postcode by hand, and the map remembers where you last searched so it opens there next time.
4. Changing your mind
You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your browser settings or, in the mobile app, in your device settings for FieldNote Coffee.
5. Camera and photos
Camera and photo library access work the same way. We ask only when you add a photo to a FieldNote, and declining simply means you save the note without a photo.
